Just More Of My Bio

A few days ago I was sitting quietly enjoying the solitude of relaxing in my recliner without the sounds of TV or radio when I suddenly thought of a former classmate. Though this may not seem strange in itself, for me it was just that since it has been thirty-seven years since I was last in school. Furthermore it has been twenty-seven years since I moved away from the up-state New York region in which I had lived in my school days.

Just to recap my bio some from the one listed here on my blog I was indeed born here in Ohio back in 1951. I lived in the very small village of Leetonia with my Mom and older brother in my grandparents home,(my Mom’s parents). One of my Moms brothers and one of her sisters and her son also lived in the home with us. We were of what most of society would refer to as the poorer end of middle class. Then again back in the early fifties in this area that was most of what the local families were, poor.

Growing up in a tiny village like Leetonia was almost like living in the country. I mean we only lived two blocks from the downtown area and one block from our Little League Baseball field and yet we had two dogs, several ducks, and an entire fenced in chicken coop. We always had a very large garden, and fruit trees. All of which was used along with the collection of fresh eggs every morning and the harvesting of the chickens to reduce the food costs of the household. My granny made fresh pies, bread, rolls, butter, ice cream, and other baked goods all the time. Every Sunday it would be Sunday school, then Church and then home for the big family dinner where every week one or more of my aunts or uncles and their families would come by for a visit with my grandparents and dinner. My grandparents had thirteen children, the youngest a daughter passed away at around three years old. Back in those days if a child or even some adults got pneumonia it was usually fatal as it was for my aunt Lorraine.

At the end of my fifth year of school in 1962 my Dad returned home from the US Army where he had been since 1951. He was trying to make a thirty year career out of it but from the injuries he had received in Korea his health had reached a point that the military was tired of giving him operations year after year and they finally told him he would need to retire from the Army and return to civilian life. Almost immediately after getting home he and Mom bought a house downtown and for the first time in our life my older brother and I would leave my grandparents home and move into a home that was just made up of a Mom, a Dad and two sons. Every chance I got I would take the three block trip across town to my grandparents house to talk with my granny. As a small boy I spent more time with granny than Mom since Mom had to work to help with the expenses around the house as did my aunt and uncle and cousin that lived there. My grandparents were retired.

I used to tell my granny that I was afraid to live with my Dad who I really did not know since we had only seen him less than a half dozen times the whole time he was in the Army. During that time we only knew him from all the letters that we exchanged and there really was not that many of those for most of them went to my Mom, and she would relay his thoughts and love to us. My granny would just say that I needed to give him time to adjust and we too needed to make adjustments. I told her it was like we were now in the Army boot camp with all these rules to follow and chores and inspections. She told me to be the young man that she knew I had grown to be without my father around and I would do just fine with him here now. In just a few months, times got really bad and it was hard for my Dad to find steady full-time work. Since his family was from New York City and his older brother lived in up-state N.Y. he called my uncle Roy,(who I was named after since I was born on his birthday), and in no time my parents sold the home they just bought and we moved to up-state N.Y.. We first settled in Fishkill, then six months later we moved to Hopewell Jct., about six months after that there was a new housing development being built just down the road, (still in Hopewell Jct.), so my parents had a new home built and we moved again. This would become our final move as a family.

Our little family began to grow with another brother in 1963, a sister in 1964, and our last sister in 1965. With three more mouths to feed and a new home to pay for my Dad took on a second job and my Mom went to work also, which meant that my older brother and I became the care givers of our new siblings while my parents went off to work. We also did much of the cooking, most of the house work, yard work, and even laundry. Mom would work full time hours as a waitress and then come home to help and or relieve my brother and I so that we could find time to hang out with our friends and finish our home-work if we had not done so already. Once again we did not see much of Dad with him working two jobs and only having Sundays off, which was his only day to rest and inspect our work. When you are young and really do not understand how life really works you form a completely wrong idea of why Dad works from early morning to late night six days a week. We just thought he was just plain mean and angry because he was more or less forced to retire from the Army that he loved so much, and working kept him away from us and our home. It probably took me until my mid to late thirties before I really got to know my Dad, since as soon as I was out of school and turned eighteen I left home and basically shut him out of my life, until I lived with him here in Ohio for just over a year. Now that Dad has passed and gone home to be with our Lord I truly miss him and his wisdom.

During our school days in New York I had a very hard time at first since I tended to be shy and counted on my big brother to be my protector as he had my entire life. If anyone picked on me or fought with me and I was hurt in anyway then my brother would find them and put an old country type of whopping on them then he would come home and whop on me and tell me that I better start getting stronger and stand up for myself because he could not always be there to pick me up. It took longer than I would have liked and my brother whopped my butt more than I liked but I did finally learn how to fight for myself. That meant less butt whopping from my piers and from my brother too, which I really liked. Though I did try to avoid fighting as much as possible, I did not allow anyone to just push me around anymore. My brother just kept telling me that we no longer lived in an environment where everyone got along with each other as they did back home in Ohio, and I needed to find newer ways to survive or I would be crushed and left behind.

The schools in N.Y. where filled with far more kids than back home, one grade level had more students than our entire school in Ohio and our housing development even had more kids than schools back home. As you can see I never stopped calling Leetonia home. I always said some day I will return to my roots and the elements in which I feel more comfortable. I guess when you are born a poor kid from a very small village for some it’s hard to let go of that safe and secure feeling you get here. I for one love being back home, and out of the bigger cities and that fast paced lifestyle. Though in all honesty this little trip down memory lane has made me remember all the great friends I made in New York and in Florida where I lived for nine years before coming back home to Leetonia.

I joined Classmates.com just a few days ago and I really am not very pleased with their service. They more or less do not let you do much of anything on their site unless you pay. Free members can basically just look around and you can not post anything in the message boards or even send or read any e-mail you may get. With all the advertising on their site I think they have no reason other than greed to charge to connect with former classmates. I am hoping that the short bio that I put there will get some of my old friends to visit here. Even in your bio there you must be very careful what you say or they will delete it. I think it would be nice to hear from some old friends. If they do come here all they need to do is post a comment with their contact info which I totally control and I would simply get their info then delete it and NOT post it.

Well that’s enough of my bio for now. The next time I will talk more about my life in New York, school days, married life, my two sons, why I moved to Florida, new marriages in Florida, why I left Florida to come home to Ohio and the wonderful wife that I found here and the last fifteen years with her. Three Old Men

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long
white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them.

She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please
come in and have something to eat."

"Is the man of the house home?", they asked.

"No", she replied. "He's out."

"Then we cannot come in", they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him
what had happened.

"Go tell them I am home and invite them in!"

The woman went out and invited the men in"

"We do not go into a House together," they replied.

"Why is that?" she asked.

One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he
said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one,
"He is Success, and I am Love."

Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which
one of us you want in your home."

The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her
husband was overjoyed. "How nice!!", he said. "Since that is the case,
let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"

Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner

I was just sitting at my desk reflecting on what it is that I am constantly searching for in my pursuit of life’s happiness. What rewards do I long for and what path in life do I follow to get there. The following post is a post that I happen to read at one of the Forums that I visit and post to everyday and it brought back so many memories that I thought that I would copy & paste it here for all my readers to relate. Since I was born in 1951 this really had me remembering my early childhood here in Ohio during the fifties and early sixties. Oh, to have those simpler days again. This little village has not really changed that much on the surface but the story below does indeed reflect our world today. TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the

1930's 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, and Early-ish 80's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a Ute on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drink with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING !

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given cowboy guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

The town football club had tryout for the junior team and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good. And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.

RAINY DAYS!!!

Rainy days, how they seem to slow down ones mind to simpler thoughts. I have spent the past three hours trying to put together another article for my blog and the article directories, and e-zine directories that I submit my articles to, well I’m sure you know that if I am sitting here telling you this then there is no article.

Yesterday I spent twice the time in the forums that I visit everyday for knowledge and to share my thoughts, so I said well that’s alright I will just be sure to write an article tomorrow. Well tomorrow is now today, and since I seem to have writers block no matter how long I stare at my research the article will not get composed today either. I feel if this article will not be my best effort then it needs to wait until it can be.

The rain has been falling off and on since yesterday afternoon. I have a window AC unit only a few feet from my desk so I can here the constant pitter patter of the rain drops on it. Total distraction from working, as is the radio and that is why I do not play that while I am trying to write. I do play my favorite country station when I do other work related tasks that do not require as much concentration as writing does.

So after I spent my normal three hours in the forum I have spent most of the past three hours thinking about my wonderful wife and the life that I have with her and how that life will improve with every step forward that my home based internet business takes. The outlook and potential income that internet marketers have before them is phenomenal. After spending about sixteen months researching for just the right programs to get involved with and avoiding the millions of online scams, and putting that involvement in action about eight months ago I feel that I have found the right path to follow. My mentor, Stone Evans, and his program are fantastic, as is the free training that he provides. I have also aligned myself with the likes of Shawn Casey, Jim Daniels, Derek Gehl, Allen Says, Gery Carson, Yanik Silver, and all the mentors at Empowerism, as well as all the new and successful members at Warrior Forum. That’s just a few of the top internet successful people and companies that I keep company with. If you click onto the links and banners, (not the Google ads), you can read up on them and their programs, most all have a free way to affiliate with their programs. The potential for income is there and in a big way, it’s all up to you and the personal budget that you may have. Remember no matter what program you get involved with or what type of website you may set up “ALWAYS” set a budget that you can withstand and stick to no matter what hype you read. ARE YOU LISTED AT THE TOP OF SEARCH ENGINES?

Whether you are new to Internet Marketing or you are a seasoned pro you most likely know that getting listed at or near the top of the major search engines can be crucial to your e-commerce efforts. After all with millions of online businesses attempting to do the very same thing that creates a multitude of competition. Therefore if your efforts fail to get your website listed in the top twenty, then get there indirectly.

Now you ask: “How do I do this?” The first thing that you can do is search for the top twenty sites that use the same keywords that a web surfer would use to find your site. Visit each site, then look for their contact information and then contact them and ask if they have an advertising program that you can buy into. This will more than likely be the most expensive path to follow. You could also look to see if they have Google ads on their site, if they do then through Google you could request to have your ads on that site. Again this could be expensive on the pay-per-click system. Now if your advertising budget is small or totally tapped out you may want to try the strategies listed below. Keep in mind that these strategies may not all apply to every website.

Upon arriving on their website look for their guestbook. If they have one get into it and sign it and be sure to say something nice about their site. Make it more than just, “hey nice site,” be creative. Some guestbook’s will have a separate place for you to insert your URL. If they do not have a separate place for your URL, then be sure that you use a signature line with your link in it.

Check the amount of traffic that the site gets and ask the owner if they would be interested in trading advertising. For those sites that get more traffic than your site offer to give the owner extra incentives.

Ask if the owner would be interested in a joint venture with you where you both cross promote your products. Package some of their products with yours and place a link in each promotion back to both sites, and both of you promote the package deal.

Another path to follow would be to try their product or service then submit a testimonial with a link to your site. This way if they like your testimonial and they use it in their ad copy your link will be seen by everyone that sees their ad.

Expand your testimonial into a full blown article and place it on your site. Be sure to contact the site owner and let them know that you have written an excellent review of their website, product, or service. This way they will definitely visit your website to see what you have written and they would see the value in placing a link on their website back to your review for their prospects to read, hoping they could convert them to customers, and you may as well.

Writing articles that you submit to other websites for content on their websites is another way of getting your link contained in your resource box seen by many for free as well. Remember these are websites already at the top of the search engines so they may not always publish your work but when they do you go straight to the top also.

See if the website has a free for all or free classified section or both and if they do be sure to take advantage of it. Make your headline catchy and attractive. Come back often to repost your ad so it stays at the top in order to be read by all their visitors.

Get the website owners permission to give a free e-book to his customers, which you will have branded with your ad, or at least a link back to your website or both.

If these websites have a discussion board or forum be sure that you join it. Visit it often and engage in the discussions and offer solutions to any questions asked and start threads of your own, get actively involved. Always have your link in your signature line to provide links back to your website.

In conclusion, by using just a few of these free methods of getting your links and or information onto very popular websites you will indirectly get your own website to the top of the same search engines. This will result in far more traffic to your website and possibly a higher rate of sales conversions. Remember the more consistent that you become in your online efforts the higher the results you will attain.

Promoting your products will indeed get you a certain level of sales online but without the presence of the face to face contact with your customers that you get in the brick and mortar world you will need another edge. By promoting yourself for the purpose of establishing trust and loyalty between you and your customers you will gain increased sales. In the following paragraphs you will find some ways to promote yourself for increased sales.

When setting up your website be sure to include a section called “About Us”. Write a short personal history of yourself and include a picture of yourself so your customers feel as though you are indeed a real person and are not hiding behind your business.

Promote yourself in all your ad copies in the same way. Have the short history and a picture but be careful not to occupy to much space of your ad with this. After all promoting your products in your ad copy is the main objective. Though the short personal history will once again establish trust with your customer for you and your business.

Promote yourself in the e-zine that you publish for your website. Since you are the editor of your own e-zine you could do this in a section titled; “A Note From The Editor”. In this section use the personal history and a business history for promotional purposes.

Become a respected expert in your field by writing articles and submitting them to article directories. Also place these articles in your e-zine, blog, newsletters, and forums that accept articles. You can even put links to your articles in your e-mail campaigns. In every article that you write be sure to include a resource box in which you have information about yourself and your business. This resource box will provide you with link backs to your website, sales letter and your business.

Locate newsgroups, discussion boards, forums, chat rooms, and e-mail discussion lists, that relate to your targeted customers. These online communities are more ways for you to promote yourself and your business. By participating in these communities and providing helpful advice in the discussions the other members will begin to feel as though they know you and they will also begin to trust you and your business and they will buy from you because of the relationship that you have created there.

Promote the fact that you care about others and your entire community by donating your time, products, or services to charities. Place a list of those charities that you help on your website. You could even briefly promote each charity by writing a brief explanation of just what you did for them and why. You may also choose to form some sort of fundraiser for these charities.

Promote yourself and your business offline as well. Join the local business trade groups, chamber of commerce, rotary, church groups, and business clubs. Teach an offline class about internet marketing for local businesses as a way for them to expand their businesses. Assemble a fundraiser group for your favorite charity and schedule a fund drive. These are just a very small segment of the offline promotion of yourself that you could do, and as always never forget to pass out business cards to everyone that you come in contact with.

Back to your website now. Set up a free consulting system on your website, this could be done through e-mail or phone or both. When your customers have the opportunity to gather important information from you about your products and or services they will feel more trusting of you and therefore they will be more comfortable to buy from you, their expert that is personally available to them.

Consider writing an e-book about your products and business and how your products will help your customers. Again in here have an “About The Author” section to promote yourself to increase the chance of increased sales. You will want to give this e-book away for “FREE” on your website and in all your advertising campaigns.

Set up a chat room on your website for the purpose of holding scheduled classes that “you” will teach on a subject related to your business. Before you start the class be sure to speak about yourself briefly to promote yourself. You could also promote yourself for increased sales by holding tele-seminars or even speak at an offline seminar about a subject related to your business.

As you can see promoting yourself for increased sales is as important as promoting your products and or services themselves. Start to use these methods in your business practices and you will soon see an increase in sales and customer loyalty.

Many small businesses and sole proprietorships are growing their businesses with outsourcing more and more today. By outsourcing part of their work load they can free up time, keep costs down and take on more business for more income. When these one man operations or small businesses hire outside professionals to take on part of their work load this is referred to as outsourcing, since these people are not employees of the business that has the work to be done. By outsourcing the small company also appears to be much larger than they really are and they can make the profits of much larger companies this way.

Employees or perspective employees will be one of the biggest time savings as well as cost savings. No time will be spent setting up interviews or doing those interviews. This will allow you to spend more time with your customers, and any customer that deals directly with the owner will become loyal much quicker and will be a repeat customer longer.

Since you will not be hiring any employees there will be no tax forms to fill out, no scheduling to be done for them, and no need for training time. All of these things take your time and cost you money. The subcontracting companies that you do business with could become a source of new business as well since they will undoubtedly be talking to people about your business which brings them more business as well. In return you could act as a middleman for the subcontractors that you use by promoting their products in your business activities. For doing this for them you would charge them a finders fee which could be an added source of income for you or when you need to have them do work for you the money you receive from them could be used to offset their cost to you for the work they do for you.

Utilizing outsourcing will mean that your product will be turned out quicker therefore it will also be delivered quicker, which will boost customer satisfaction. The increase in customer satisfaction will multiply your profits quickly in the form of repeat business and referrals from those happy customers to their family, friends, and even strangers they may meet in their daily routine.

In conclusion any business can benefit from outsourcing in these ways provided that they locate and negotiate with an outside business that is prepared to meet the needs and has the knowledge and staff to produce the product sufficiently and economically. This outsourcing allows the small business to compete on a more even level with much larger companies as well as providing revenue growth and profit growth without increasing all the costs associated with growth.

This creates the opportunity for you to start a community of people in your targeted niche. Setting up such a community will establish you with people that are interested in the type of products and services that you sell.

Depending on the size of the business the owner should be the one keeping tabs on these things or in the case of a larger operation then an office manager should be responsible for these costs as well as reporting back to the owner directly on a regular basis to keep them inline with the business plan. It is far easier to sell an item to a customer that has already made a purchase from a business than it is to sell to a customer that has yet learned to trust that business. If any business is not attempting to sell back end products they are making a grave error and loosing sales and profits. With this article we will discuss some different ways to promote those back end products for increased sales and profits.

The first chance that any business has to promote back end sales would be on the “thank you” page of their website. Here a business could have a statement on the lines of, “thank you for your order today and you may wish to consider this item to compliment the item you have already purchased”. If you add this item at this time you can receive a 25% discount off the regular price.

When ever a business ships a customers purchase whether it’s their first purchase, or a repeat order that business should always include a flyer or brochure for the selected back end product in the shipment. BEWARE OF THE INTERNET SCAMS

It really does not matter just what type of Internet business you want to run or already do run, you could certainly find an Internet scam in your chosen field. As a matter of fact there are millions of scams that are known, and many more new ones pop up everyday. This certainly does not mean that you will not find a legitimate Internet business opportunity or affiliate program to prosper in. The Internet is by far the worlds largest library of business interests. You will just need to use caution and research the opportunity that interests you the most.

You should start by doing a search on Google, Yahoo, and or MSN for known scams in your chosen field of interest. Before I began my efforts on-line I did this and it helped me to avoid getting ripped off. Then I would search the Net for affiliate programs, e-commerce with low start-up costs, and work at home jobs. Once I thought I had found the right companies to work with then I began to search the Net for all the information on these companies that I could find. I went to the on-line version of the BBB, as well as contacting the off-line BBB in the home location of each company. I do know that just because these agencies have not received any complaints on a particular company does not mean that they are safe, however if they are a long standing member of the BBB then you can be somewhat safe in concluding that they are reputable and safe to work with.

When I got ready to write this little article today I did a quick search on Google and Yahoo. Just look at the results that came up for just three keyword searches on each of these engines. At Yahoo, search for; known Internet scams, and you’ll get 1,450,000.…
Then search; Internet scams, and you’ll get 6,960,000.….Then search just; Scams, and you’ll get 17,900,000.…Now run the same three searches on Google and you will find the following results; known Internet scams 1,860,000.….Internet scams 1,410,000.…Scams 2,960,000.… I stopped there and did not search MSN since I am sure you see the point that I am trying to make. Please do not look at this as a reason not to seek the future you want from the Internet, as I said earlier there are many honest and reputable Internet marketers that you can a-line yourself with and over time with some effort and some investment from you, you can indeed find your financial freedom with an Internet business of your own.

The Plug In Profit program that was founded by Stone Evans is indeed one of these highly respected and successful Internet programs. This program is made up of multiple affiliate programs that Stone teaches everyone how to work their way to success. It all starts with a “free” website and progresses from there. There is a low cost investment at start up and some low cost on going fees, however the website and most of the memberships are free. Once you get started as with any business there are other levels of investments that come up, however they are not required, just suggested to aid in your success. You are in total control of what level of investment you wish to make in your business. It is strongly recommended the you set yourself on a budget that you can “afford” and be comfortable with. The speed at which your new business will grow also solely depends on just how committed you are. This is a fact of any business whether on-line or off-line. It’s not a get rich quick business, but one that you will need to work at and nurture along until over time you find small successes then, those successes will grow to much larger ones. More investment of money does not necessarily mean more success, you and your investment of time and effort will be the biggest factor in your eventual success. With the statistics showing that 95% of the people looking to make money on-line finding failure and only 5% finding success it is important to understand why this is. Well what you see in this article plays a very big part in these numbers. People jump into programs that sound to good to be true and they are and money is lost. After doing this a number of times a lot of people give up and label the Internet as “nothing” but a big rip-off. The way that I look at it is that if people are to lazy to do the research first then they are more apt to get taken and loose money. Also if they are jumping at programs that boast about you, “not needing to do anything” and you will make thousands of dollars everyday, then they more than likely do not want to “work” to earn their financial freedom either. It really does not matter what business you own or are employed by, if you do not put in the “effort” and “work” you are not going to get anything in return either. If you are told invest $2000 once and you will make $1000 per day for ever, and you do nothing and I will do all the “work”. Does that even sound remotely like it makes sense? You can be sure if it does not make sense then it’s not true and you are about to be taken for all the money you are willing to part with. Just remember all legitimate businesses require some monetary investment, your time, and your work. The return is always commensurate with the investment, or you get back only what you put in, put nothing in then get nothing back.

The Internet is still growing with leaps and bounds and there is still many legitimate ways to become wealthy “working” on-line, so keep looking and be patient and cautious and you will find what you are looking for. It’s out there so go for it.

ARE YOUR ON-LINE TESTIMONIALS BELIEVABLE?

If you operate an on-line business then you more than likely have used testimonials in your sales page or at least given the idea some thought. Depending on just what type of product or service you are offering the use of testimonials could very well be the key to increased sales. Though this would most likely depend on whether or not your testimonials are believable or not. As an on-line entrepreneur the face to face sales factor is lost, so establishing our credibility and honesty and believability, more often than not has to come alive within our sales page and the home page of our website. Without any doubt you have seen the many different uses of testimonials throughout the net. Think about those that you have seen for a moment or two and then ask yourself, “did I really believe the testimonials?”. Regardless what your answer was ask yourself, “why?”. What can we do to make our testimonials as believable as possible?

The unsolicited testimonial is the best by far, and most credible. When we do get testimonials, we can contact these customers and now we ask them for certain favors. These favors will be the different ways that we choose to establish believability, credibly, and honesty.

One of the more difficult requests is always, would you give your permission to me to print your contact information with your testimonial. So often most people just do not want their information given out so freely. They may agree to partial contact information, which is better than none at all. This request would be the same if the testimonial came to us via e-mail. It’s best if you can reprint the entire e-mail which includes the date, time, subject, who it’s from, and who it’s to. Again always get the senders permission before you reprint it in your sales page or website.

If you really want to portray a feel of realism then you will want to ask the sender of your testimonials if they would mind sending it in their own hand writing. Once you get these then just scan the entire hand written letter and upload it to your site. An electronic signature can be just as effective, as opposed to just the standard text signature. By using an electronic signature you could still have typed text and just upload the signature. Either way that you choose both will seem more official and real.

What ever form of testimonial that you are fortunate enough to receive if the sender would be generous enough to include a short profile about themselves then the testimonial could become more entertaining to read. They may choose to include things such as; their occupation, hobbies, age, and favorite quote, etc. Just another way of establishing the realism factor, hence, believability.

Quickly rising in popularity, is the hand written postcard type of testimonial. You will immediately establish credibility and believability simply by showing the post mark. Now your customers know for certain that this testimonial came to you in the mail, and is in fact real.

To add even more believability to any type of testimonial, you could request that the sender include a picture which can be uploaded with the entire testimonial. This establishes the real person status. You know that old saying, pictures speak a thousand words.

Another testimonial form which is growing in popularity is the audio form. Capture a short interview type testimonial on tape, whether you use a mini tape recorder over the phone, have them leave it in your voicemail, or on your answering machine. Once you have it captured you can upload it to your website. Another way to make use of the recorded testimonial would be to simply type a short snip-it on your website with a toll free number that your customers could call to hear the entire testimonial.

It has become only a natural order of events that along with the audio testimonials we are starting to see more and more of the video recorded testimonials. This method cuts right to the chase and all your visitors can see and listen to just what your happy customers have to say about your products and or services. Most likely the most “believable” type of testimonial in today’s market, in my opinion.

In closing I am sure whether you are just starting out in your own business or you have been an entrepreneur for some years now you can see the ever increasing importance of testimonials and more importantly the believability of those testimonials that you use. Since businesses started to do business it has always been that “word of mouth” form of advertising/promotion that has produced the biggest and strongest form of growth and sales. Therefore when ever you can be sure to use those testimonials and always be sure to make them totally believable and real. The fake ones are so easily detected.

Key Elements For Success

When we think of success many thoughts may pass through our minds as to just what defines success. Is it simply having lots of financial stability, a long list of wealthy friends and associates, a high paying occupation, or a high level of social respect. I suppose that depending on just who you may be speaking to at any give time a strong argument could be given for any one of these items. However one may not always find happiness and joy go hand in hand with these items unless you have traveled along a road of personal choice and self gratification. The point at hand is one can be born into a lifestyle that includes all of these without any effort to earn them, one could be of higher learning and acquire a high paying occupation that they dislike, one could win a lottery, or one could reach these levels from many other means. However if by what ever means that they did acquire these socially accepted signs of success they never enjoyed the journey are they really successful?

That last question suggests that “true” success must come from within ones heart and soul. Should you travel your entire life journey without wealth, though you have more inner peace and joy about your trip than most, are you not still successful? If you have all the peace and joy in your heart and soul then you have truly accomplished your life plan. Is accomplishment not also looked upon as being successful? So then, we now have another outlook on success. Whether your personal meaning of success includes all the finer things of life, plus the inner peace and joy that most seek or just one or the other all paths to success will have some key elements to get to the end result that defines you.

Just what can some of those key elements be? We would definitely need to include the following. Desire, discipline, strategy, focus, patience, and perseverance. Considering these as just the main key elements to get one to success let’s look at them a bit.

Desire, could also be looked at in the light of one’s dreams and hopes. Without having any dreams or hopes, what ever level they may be, one has no direction to follow and just goes through life aimlessly. Therefore here it is import for one to set those dreams and hopes in the form of a life plan. Write them down no matter how large or small you may think them to be. Now they become your goals in life, which in turn gives your life purpose.

In order to reach the goals that you have laid out in your life plan you will need to become very disciplined and diligently plan your strategy on just how you will attain those very goals. From the very beginning of the planning stages of the path to follow to success to the actual accomplishment you will need to have personal motivators in order to maintain your focus. Find your motivators whether of real substance or imaginary and always keep them fresh to avoid straying from your strategy. Maintaining your self discipline, your focus, and your personal motivation will keep you within your laid out strategy.
Without any doubt you will have some small setbacks and maybe even a few large ones. Be very patient and learn from those setbacks so as not to make them again. No path, regardless of how well you plan will always go smoothly, Patience is truly a very import key element in your quest for success. I have always been told that patience is the virtue of life. Not sure who it was that started that quote but it does ring very loud and true.

Another loud and true element that is a must in your arsenal of weapons to gain success would be perseverance. Should you not find what you seek around every corner of your journey then keep trying until you do. Ralph Waldo Emerson is quoted as saying, “What lies behind us and what lies before are small matters compared to what lies within us.” This is how he thought of perseverance. Once again we come to that inner peace in our souls. When we accomplish total satisfaction of our inner peace, then we have found true success regardless of how many of life’s riches we have acquired.

Never be afraid to dream, nothing is really out of reach, for we set our own boundaries within ourselves. Success then is truly within one’s own mind, everyone sees their own joy and peace. Therefore find your own inner peace and joy and you will “feel” your success.

CREATE A BLAZING INFERNO OF PROFITS

Whether you run a brick and mortar store front,(off-line store), or you are an internet marketer, everyone knows that profits are what it’s all about. If your business is not producing profits then you are not going to be in business for very long. That is unless you are independently filthy rich and have nothing better to do with your money. How do we increase profits, well the two basic ways come to mind. We could increase the selling price or we could increase the number of sales. It is my opinion that the second choice is the best and more acceptable method to choose. Selling your product or service for a fair market value as opposed to an over inflated price will draw more attention, therefore raising the opportunity for increased sales. The marketer that over inflates the selling price stands a better chance of driving away the market wise shopper. See if the following thoughts are not fuel for that blazing inferno.

When constructing your website or community image, establish the image that you are a real person not just another website, or corner store. Start by creating a profile page or an about us page where you can write a short informational paragraph about yourself and or your family, include a picture of yourself, and a history of your experience in your field of business. This could also be done with a press release as well.

Everyone loves to gain more knowledge, even about things they already know so you could publish your own e-book and give it away for free on your site as well as in your free e-zine or free news-letter. This should increase your site traffic, subscribers, and sales, which as we said, more sales equals more profits.

Really stoke those flames with multiple streams of income on your site by promoting affiliate programs, selling your own products and you could even sell advertising space, and have a Google AdSense program on your site.

When you are selling your own products remember to research the market first before creating those products. Without any demand for your product you will not have sales.

Do not overwhelm your customers by having too many products or services on your site at one time. In many cases too many choices drives customers away do to confusion of which item to buy, instead of making a sale. If you have a large variety of items to offer try displaying them on your site in a rotating fashion.

Also remember you can place items on your “Thank Page”, which will become your immediate backend sales. Make these high profit impulse items, items that your customer will feel they can not do without.

Establish your credibility by always having a “Contact Page”, the more ways of contacting you that you give your customers the more apt they will come to trust you and continue to return to your site and buy from you.

You should always promote what you are selling in all the content and free give a-ways on your site . Should visitors to your site not read your sales pitch they will most often read your free offerings. Any downloadable written informational item that you give a-way should always be branded with link backs to your site and products.

Along with the idea of creating your image as a person keep in mind that even customers like to be complimented from time to time. Therefore in the construction of your sales page and within the content of your website be sure to strategically place general compliments to your customers, this will place them in a good mood and you will win their trust, thus inspiring them to buy from “you”.

Be sure not to forget to always use the “P.S.” in your ad copy. This serves as a multifunctional tool for any ad copy, where you will have your “call to action” phrase, your “major Free Bonus”, and or repeating a very “strong benefit” of doing business with you.

So what do you think, will these methods stoke that blazing inferno of profits for you if used properly? Should you doubt their importance even slightly just take a look at the more successful marketers, whether on-line or off-line and see just how many of these marketing methods they utilize in their ad campaigns, direct mail ad copy, in store signs, or what ever advertising media they use. I have seen all these methods find success over my thirty-three years in retail sales.

It seems that even with my posting the "BLOG RULES" on posting your comments to my articles once again I am forced to point out those rules. Someone with the user name of "Askinstoo" posted eight comments to just three of my latest articles and I was forced to "REJECT" all eight of his comments since everyone was exactly the same word for word and they were just as follows; "Very nice, then he/she went into a three line ad for his/her own business efforts. Just in case you do not see it Askinstoo this is SPAM and that is not wanted or tolerated here. As I have said in a previous post if you want to advertise on my blog either "pay me directly" or pay Google to place your ads here. This is "NOT" a "FREE" advertising blog. So stop being cheap and most of all LAZY and find another way to advertise what you do because I WILL NEVER post your ads unless you pay me to do that.

Part of the business plan of any on-line marketer is establishing a regular flow of targeted traffic to a website or sales letter that promotes what the business sells. There can be many ways that a marketer accomplishes this whether through means that cost advertising dollars or by writing articles related to the business and linking back to the site or sales page. You can find many on-line e-zines, news-letters, article directories, and free content websites that are looking for fresh content,(articles). Now for the most part these places will not pay you for your articles but they will allow you to submit them for free. This is where the benefits of writing and submitting articles comes into play. You will just need to be sure that all the places you submit your articles to agree to leave your about the author and copy right links in tact when publishing your articles or when they give them away for free to their members, most all of these type of sites do this, but check to be sure. Now let’s take a look at some benefits to you becoming an author.

1) First things first, of course by writing your own articles you will always have fresh new content for your news-letter, and website. Second you could search similar news-letters which are related to your primary field of marketing but not in direct competition and you could broker a deal with the publisher that you agree to run one of his articles in your news-letter, if he runs one of yours in his news-letter. This is a win-win situation for both of you and it’s another “free” form of advertising and getting “free” targeted traffic.

10) In my opinion by submitting articles to e-zines one of the biggest benefits you will gain is that you will brand your website, your business, and most importantly yourself. When you write articles you will “always” have a resource box in them in which you will include some or all of these items; your credentials, website address, your e-mail address, your business name, and your name. This resource box becomes your brand and your link to future sales long after you submit an article.

I am sure that if I was to sit here and think long and hard I could come up with even more benefits to writing articles as a means to promote yourself and your business, but I think you can see the value in this already. Do not let your negativity keep you from writing articles, by making you think that you do not know enough to write about some topic. I am sure that you have a passion, hobby, talent, or business idea that you have read about. All you need to do now is think it through make an outline and write what you have learned in your own words and you have an information article that will be used to teach some one else what you know.

MOTIVATE YOUR CUSTOMERS TO BUY FROM YOU!!

To increase the number of sales that you make each day, let’s look at the idea of motivating your prospective customers. What are some of the things that would motivate you? More than likely those same things will motivate your customers as well. I have given this some time and I have written my thoughts here.

1) Everyone would like to find more fulfillment in their life. To accomplish this they would like to have more pleasure by satisfying their appetite more and even acquiring more of their sexual desires, just to mention a few things to feel more fulfilled.

2) People would like to feel more attractive. Meaning they would like to look better, maybe by losing some weight, or putting more tone into their bodies, or make some improvements to their facial features, to suggest a few ways to accomplish this.

3) Comfort is becoming a very big issue with some people. Whether they need to find ways to relieve their aches and pains, or just simply sleep in a more comfortable bed at night for a more restful sleep.

4) Another way for some people to feel more relaxed in today’s fast paced lifestyles would to simply save some time. By accomplishing this they could be working less hours and enjoying more of life’s pleasures with their loved ones.

5) We all want to be healthier so as to live longer. We can do this by getting into better shape, improving our diet with better health in mind, and improve energy levels to become more active in the things that make us happy.

6) Right from a very young age we are groomed to become more popular. Whether we aspire to become a famous celebrity, an athlete, or just more popular at school or work. This makes us feel validated, praised and admired.

7) Continuing on the lines popularity we need to be wanted. Meaning we want to be loved, so we start dating, or spending more time with family because we simply do not want to be lonely anymore.

8) We are always in search of more knowledge in order to become more intelligent. Learning something new is a never ending quest in most people’s minds and life. The need to make changes in our life to realize growth and the ability to know how to do more things, makes us wanted by others and respected more. Those that aspire to gain more knowledge on a regular basis never will have an idle mind.

9) The security issue is also quickly becoming ever so more prevalent in all our lives with the economy going in the direction it has for the past few years. This has created an even larger need to save more of our money, invest more of our money, and think more about our future needs now. You may even see that in the near future you will need to make a large purchase of some kind which will also dictate that you save more money now.

10) I know of no one that would not like to earn more money for their time and effort. There is always a need for us to have more money even if it is just to keep up with the rising cost of living. To gain this increase in income people may have the desire to start their own business, seek a higher paying job, or maybe invest their money to attempt to stimulate this growth. With more income or wealth we will naturally feel more successful. No one I know wants to feel like a failure.

If you keep the afore mentioned wants and needs of today’s common person in mind when you select the type of product or service you wish to promote you may find success easier and quicker. Also remember that these are what I like to refer to as the emotional buttons to motivation and if used properly in your sales letter, or ad copy you should draw a more eager to buy prospect. As with any new way of advertising remember to test and to track you progress to be sure that you are targeting the correct market, and experiencing enough success to make the ad worth putting out there. Therefore when you construct your next sales letter or ad copy keep these thoughts in mind and write that massively successful campaign. Best of luck in your efforts.

WORDS THAT COMPEL US TO BUY!!

When you sit down to compose your ad copy keep in mind that all the best copy writers will tell you to be sure to use those “special key” words that will influence your customer to buy. Years of marketing research has been done, and will continue to go on for years to come in the never ending quest for those targeted advertising ways to get us to buy, especially from some one we do not know. Though from time to time the words or their effectiveness may change slightly for the most part there seems to be those standard over used ones that we keep buying into, even if the product we buy is not exactly up to our expectations of what we thought we were buying. To me it seems as though these words have some kind of mind altering power of sorts. Let’s take a look at them, and be honest with yourself when you read them, and must admit to yourself, man I get pulled in every time on this word or that one or many of them.

1) New. This can come in several forms; new and improved, new never seen before now, completely new, new information, new technology, new results, and new tastes. You get the idea, anything to get you to “feel” as though this “new” product or service is just what you need to improve the quality of your life.

2) Important. This word can and usually does establish the fact that this is possibly information that you can not do without. It may be crucial in order to make needed changes in ones life. This word can also lead the ad copy directly into the next key word on our list, which is…..

3) Limited. The power button of words that say buy this now or forever be without it. You could be the only one on your block that has this unique item or service or “embarrassing” as it will be, you may be the only one on your block that missed out on such a fantastic deal. Time is of the essence when you see for a “limited” time only.

4) Fast. So act “fast” so that you can be ahead of the pack. This word can also be used to make you a promise or two. This business promises you fast results, fast ordering, fast delivery, etc.

5) Guaranteed. Now come on you know that you are just like myself and everyone else. We all want guarantees with anything we spend our hard earned money on, or we just will not buy.

6) Easy/Simple. In today’s world of pushing all that we can onto our plate we want more and more things to be “ easy and or simple”. We want everything to be, easy to use, easy to buy/order, simple instructions, simple payment methods, etc, you get the idea.

7) You/Your. Ad copy that makes things personal with these words have always been successful and more than likely always will. Making an ad personal entices people to read more of the ad since they feel as though they are important enough that this ad is speaking to them personally.

8) Testimonial. This is the word that validates the product or service. After all these are real people like you and me that have already purchased this product or service and think so highly of it that they have taken the “time” to write to the company an give them their “unsolicited” words of praise. The first of three “hook-em” words.

9)Discount/Sale. “Hook-em” number two, which can be made to seem even more “important”, when the ad ties in, for a “limited” time, “you” can get this “new” product before anyone else, but “you” must act “fast” while supply lasts, it is “easy and simple” to place “your “ order today.

10) Free. Probably the biggest “hook-em” of all. As a bonus just for those of “you” that act “fast” and use our “easy” order form to get this “new” and incredible product during this special “limited” offer at our “discounted” launch price we will include this bonus item totally “free”, for today only.

Well there you have just ten of those words that I think of as having some sort of mind altering power, which compels us to make that purchase, “today”. How many of them have enticed “you” to make an “important” purchase lately, and did “you” get “your” “guarantee” with that “new” item? Some times it is fun to look back over just what it was in an ad or product promotion that inspired us to finally make a purchase, that is if we are happy with what we got, otherwise I doubt it was fun at all. Just take a few moments to look around your home at anything new that you purchased recently and, while being honest with yourself think back to the day that you purchased it and how many of these words “got you”. Hopefully this proves to be fun for you, which would mean that you are happy with all the new things that you have purchased.

YOUR AD COPY IS NOT PRODUCING SALES!!

Today I would like to explore some reasons why a prospective customer may not buy from you. Aside from the normal window shopper, or browser that is just bored and is just looking for the lack of something better to do at the moment. Of course we are looking at these as reasons that apply to your on-line business, however I am sure you will see how they could also apply to an off-line store/business as well. So let’s take a look.

1. You are not establishing a feeling of safety when your customer wants to place an order. Keep in mind that this is the internet and you will need to have reminders in the form of seals from known on-line security systems that will put your customers at ease. Always, let me repeat that, ALWAYS have the statement posted that you will keep all their information confidential and that you would never sell, rent, or share their e-mail address with anyone.

2. Your ad copy does not flow fluently and is not pleasing to the eye. Your headline is not attractive to your intended targeted audience. You have not included any testimonials or guarantees in your ad.

3. You have not suggested that your visitors bookmark your page for “their” convenience in order to make their return visit easier, nor have you wished them a nice day. Since most people do not make a purchase on their first visit, always suggest that they return and give them the opportunity to sign up for your “free” e-zine or e-mail announcement program to keep them up to date on any changes or new offers at your site.

4. You set up your website without putting an “About Us” tab in your navigation bar. To make yourself more professional and trustworthy you “must” have this section. You will need to state your qualifications in your line of business, including years of experience, your company policy on sales and returns, customer satisfaction and your contact information. These things will put your customers at ease and will feel more comfortable doing business with you since they will have a sense of who you are and feel as though they actually know you, and more importantly “trust” you.

5. You have very limited forms of payment choices for your customers convenience, and you do not have alternate choices for ordering. You will find that even if you have made your site as secure as possible some people would rather order from you via, mail order, phone orders, fax orders, or e-mail orders. So implement as many of these methods as possible and remember in today’s world it is a must that you accept credit cards either through a merchant account or PayPal, or other respected on-line money processors.

6. You have not taken enough time to make your web site look professional. Your website should have your company name as it’s domain name, or at least be yours and not a shared name, the site should have an easy flow to it in order to make your customer’s navigation simple and unobtrusive. All the text and graphics on your site should have a central theme that they all point to.

7. You started your ad copy with your “free” give away. When you are going to make your ad more attractive with “free” items as a bonus, or if you offer a percentage off the base price “never” start your ad with that information. This may cause doubt as to the quality of your product. Make your sales pitch first then bring in the bonus offerings at the end as a means of sweetening the deal.

8. You are not reaching your targeted audience that would buy your product or service. You are not advertising in the proper market. The quickest way to correct this would be to follow up with the customers that did buy from you and ask them to let you know just what it was that attracted them to your site, and where they seen your ads.

9. You never make changes to your ad copy and it becomes stale and mundane. You must constantly test your ad copy in different markets and you will need to keep the content of your ads up-to-date with the changing times. Make it new and fresh regularly, while keeping in mind that some ad copy that draws very well should maintain the “core” of the ad and just change the little things for minor improvements.

10. Your ad copy does not contain any urgency to “buy now”. Without placing an urgency message line in your ad copy to entice your customers to “buy now” they may put off their purchase to a later time and may even forget all about your product or service and never buy. Make use of a dead line for the special price or “free” offer as your bonus. This way if they want what you offer they will buy now so as not to miss out on the bonus offer.

Now analyze your ad copy and website and see if any of the above reasons for lack of sales exist within them. If you have made any or all of the mistakes mentioned here then by all means go back and correct the situation. Once you have made the necessary changes begin to test your new and improved ad/site and track the promotion/marketing and log in the increases in sales. Best of luck in all your business efforts.

ON-LINE SURVEYS---LEGITIMATE OR SCAMS??

With all the on-line businesses that advertise get paid to do on-line surveys, it can be very tempting to think that they must be legitimate offers. You will indeed find some real people that will tell you that they do actually make some money from doing surveys along with point systems that you can get free stuff and or win prizes and cash. You will also find different ads that charge you a fee to put you in contact with the companies that actually pay you for taking the surveys, and some ads that will give the same information for free just for joining their program. I actually was one of the foolish people to pay $30.00 for the information back when I tried to make some extra cash with on-line surveys, and afterwards came across the same information for free just for becoming a member.

Since I can only give you my “personal opinion” based on my “personal experience” let’s just stick to that. I will not go into the things that I have read by other people on the net or in forums except to say that I have seen far more negative comments than positive. Also I would like to relate to you the words of one very successful internet marketer.

I had, what I would describe as a small debate about this with a very successful internet marketer that promotes very strongly one of the survey companies. I spoke very negatively about survey companies in general and the one he promotes also. His response to me was; “you also need to know that I believe you are wrong about most of the survey companies….especially “XXX XXXX.” This company in particular is a very good source of supplemental income for people who thoroughly complete the initial application and then properly signup for ALL the listed surveys and focus groups that are available for them to participate in. About 90% of the people who signup for these do not take the time and put forth the effort to get themselves set up properly….and then they give up before they have enough seniority to get the really good surveys which go to the people who have been responding dependably over a period of time. You must establish credibility to get the high paying surveys so the survey takers are certain to get valid results.” For me his above response was no more than BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, the typical sales letter speech that blames the “LAZY CUSTOMER” and not the scam that the seller is selling. Sorry!! Personally I think that the company that says if you give of your time to take this survey for which you will be paid should be the one that needs to establish credibility, honesty, and dependability with me not the other way around. Their ads boast of income from $100 to $1000 per month every month, just for taking surveys. Well I for one have never met or read anything from a real person that made more than an occasional $100 or two and this was not on any kind of consistent basis. For the most part they only earned entry points into cash or prize drawings, and the occasional free item.

My personal experience with the survey companies and what I choose to refer to as a major ongoing scam of the every day person looking for a little extra cash, lasted just over four months. After paying my $30 to become a member I indeed jumped through all the hoops and signed up with more than thirty companies for paid surveys and focus groups. And within just hours I was receiving tons of e-mail from everyone and his brother. On average I had to sift through 150 - 200 e-mails per day and within those e-mails would be 25 to 30 surveys, none for pay I might add. I guess this was the establishing “my credibility” that the above marketer mentioned. As a general rule the last page of each survey was a long list of “sponsors” from which you had to accept two or three of the “free offers” to continue. Since I never would accept any of the free offers I guess that is why I never qualified for the paid surveys. Yes the offers were indeed free, however they all required your personal information so they could do things such as insurance quotes, mortgage quotes, schooling, car loans, or credit counseling, etc. The way I looked at this was if I and everyone else paid you $30 to join then why would you need sponsors that require me to give out my personal information in addition to the thirty some companies that through you I already would need to give it to should I earn any money for taking surveys before I could get paid. By the end of the second month of doing these type of surveys I did start to receive notice of surveys for amounts between $1 and $25, even two for $50. However even the ones for the mere $1, again the last page had this list of sponsors and low and behold when I tried to skip those pages I would eventually get the page that said “sorry you do not qualify for this paid survey but you have earned 100 points in this drawing.” So to the above marketer I say; “ what more did I need to do besides the fifty hours of my time jumping through the hoops. Oh, I know I needed to give out all my personal information to one hundred companies that I never heard of from God knows where just so I would be dependable, reliable, and credible so that the survey people would know that they were getting “valid results”. Horse pucky!! Just the mere thought that the day may come that I would need to give out my personal information to get a small check was scary enough without my giving it to tens of mortgage companies, insurance companies, and no name credit counselors so they could give me reports that I did not need, nor want from them.

In closing I will say that in my “personal opinion” I have yet to see or hear of any legitimate survey company on-line that pays with any consistency or pays at all. Therefore I must conclude that in my “personal opinion” getting paid to take on-line surveys is more than likely one of, if not the biggest scam on the internet today and yet thousands of people every day pay for this scam, just as I did.

Should you feel that I am wrong and the internet marketer that I spoke of is truthful then please at least proceed with caution and set up a separate e-mail account and limit the number of companies that you divulge your personal information to. Some people admit that they rarely make any cash but they do it because it’s fun. If you have that much time to waste more power to you and enjoy. Best of luck to all.

CONTINUED PURSUIT OF ON-LINE INCOME!!

For the regular readers of R.J.’s Opinions you are already aware of my ongoing pursuit of making an income on-line with little or no financial investment of cash from me. Now I had originally started out with a sizable investment when I first set up Roy’s Gift World which was my first on-line business back in March of 2005. After months of attempting to solely promote that website off line through multiple means, I had started to use free on-line marketing and featured listing(paid) on the Exactseek,(joined this in August 2005), search engine group, Pay-Per-Click at Link-A-Thon and direct mailing. I feel that type of promotion is required for that type of website, as well as a local newspaper campaign. As for promotion of all the affiliate programs that I have joined the free promotion through TrafficSwarm (joined this in August 2005), Free-Advertising-Blog, word of mouth, e-mail, free classified ads, and banner ads here on my blog seem to be coming together a little at a time.

I really can’t complain to much since I only got started with my first affiliate program on October 24,2005 which was my SFI affiliation. SFI has been around the internet since 1998 and is a division of Carson Services Inc. which has been doing business since 1985 and is very well respected. This is really what I call a two part type affiliate program since I can sign up people in my down-line or I can sell products through my Veriuni store on-line.

In December 2005 I purchased the e-book Mining Gold from Shawn Casey and joined his affiliate program. I actually promote the Mining Gold e-book through SFI and I promote Shawn’s other books and offers through his affiliate program. His e-book Desperate For Money has earned me some commissions, click-thru from here on my blog.

In January 2006 I became affiliated with The Internet Marketing Center and began to promote their products and training programs. At the same time I also became affiliated with Empowerism and their International Success Mentoring and Global Business Opportunity.

In February 2006 I come across the Free-Advertising-Blog while reading and posting in the Warrior Forum, a business forum, that I belong to. If you are in business or thinking of going into business this is a must forum to join. The amount of knowledge in this forum is outstanding. Back to the Free-Advertising-Blog it is also an affiliate program as well as a place for me to advertise.

EMPLOYEES OR SUB-CONTRACTORS??

A few weeks ago I was having a conversation with a close friend on the subject of self employment. He knows that I am self-employed in the form of a sole proprietorship home based business as he is also. I work mostly on my computer and make a few sales face to face or at flea markets with my home décor business and then I have the internet marketing,(affiliate programs), that I do as well. He on the other hand is in the lawn care service, also working from home in a one man operation system for now. He would like to take on a partner, or preferably employees in order to expand his operation to increase his income and reduce the amount of manual labor he himself needs to do. That’s when I had suggested that he talk with a lawyer that specializes in business law. I thought he may find many advantages to using sub-contractors as opposed to employees.

I told him that I was no lawyer nor was I giving any legal advice but I had been told many years ago that if you can use sub-contractors you could save money in several ways. For instance you would not need to carry workers compensation insurance, nor would you have all the matching taxes associated with being an employer. Plus all pay that you gave a sub-contractor on a 1099 tax form would come off your income as an expense. But once again I told him “not” to take my word on this, but spend a little money and talk to a lawyer first. The amount that he spends for the lawyer could turn out to be mere pennies compared with what he may face should he do the wrong thing.

According to what you will find on http://www.ohiobwc.com/ all employers with one or more employees must carry workers’ compensation insurance. It’s the law. However, Ohio law makes coverage optional for owners or ministers in one of the following categories:

Sole proprietor
Partnership
Limited liability company acting as a sole proprietor
Limited liability company acting as a partnership
Family farm corporate officers
Individual incorporated as a corporation with no employees
Ordained or associate ministers of a religious organization

As for independent contractors and sub-contractors are concerned the Ohio BWC states;
If the owner or company controls the selection of materials, traveling routes and quality of performance of any independent contractor or sub-contractor then an employee/employer relationship exists and the owner/company must carry workers compensation insurance to cover those workers.

At this point I told my friend you really need to contact a lawyer before you hire or sub-contract work to anyone. The financial penalties that you could be faced with should you make even a small mistake in judgment could put a small time businessman like you right out of business. And this information that I found for you does not even get into the tax questions. This is why I am glad that I run the one man operation that I do just so I do not need to be faced with these kind of worries. In his line of business, as I told him, the odds of on the job injury is very strong.

He just needs to sit down with a lawyer and go over everything before he makes any final decisions on expansion of his customer base which would require him to hire someone. Like I told him today that there may be a good chance that the right lawyer could fine tune the definition of employee verses sub-contractor to his advantage and may be not. In either case he is more than likely going to need to provide the workers’ comp. insurance and the tax questions could be answered by the same lawyer or his tax accountant.

I believe he is having second thoughts about growth now which I feel bad about since he is close to my age and would like to slow down but he needs the money from the accounts that he has. I told him that he should not just forget the idea, but talk to a lawyer and also check into government loans and or grants for expanding a established business. He may find some big breaks there as well. There may also be tax incentives that would make it more attractive to him. I keep reminding him as I do myself that if you want something strongly enough in this world with some “work” anything is possible. Just keep the Faith and put in the effort and work at it and it will all come together and work out for you.

"SPAM WILL NOT BE TOLARATED HERE !!"

Well, I launched this blog on Jan.23,2006 and some one has finally tried to post “SPAM” in the form of a comment. Frankly I am surprised it took this long. I not only welcome any readers comments, I also encourage them. However I also encourage you to take a moment of your time to read the introduction to this blog for the rules on posting your comments. The number one rule listed is that your comments are “NOT TO BE SPAM”, then the other rules of what they may not be are listed as well.

So let’s get a few things clear today for those netrepreneurs, (on-line entrepreneurs), that are just to stupid or ignorant to “GET IT” and know what “SPAM” is. Whether you are posting a comment here, on another blog, or at a forum, or sending out e-mail with a sales pitch in place of any words of value or contribution to the subject at hand then you are just posting SPAM. Furthermore I only permit three people to advertise for “FREE” here on my blog and they are, ME, MYSELF, AND I, oops that’s really only one person, ME! Now I have applied to Google to place ads here that I will be paid for, so if you want to pay Google and Myself in the form of pay per click, then just contact Google and tell them you would like your ads placed here.

So if you have nothing of value to contribute than just keep your mouth shut and or just do not even come to my blog. As I have said many times I would love it if every internet user stopped by and read my entries and made comments but I will continue to maintain total and complete control over those posted comments for all the reasons stated in the introduction of this blog. If you have an on-line business then find the “PROPER” ways to promote it. Heck, I have even given many examples here in my posts and in my links. There is never any need for SPAM. The on-line marketer that uses SPAM to promote their business is the biggest reason that honest, hard working Internet Marketers like myself have such a tall mountain and high wall of skepticism to over come in order to find success. You are the typical forum member that finds himself outcast or even blacklisted for the same reasons. Just incase you may be to dumb to realize who you are, since most spammers never look to even see if their comments were approved and posted, let me tell my readers just what you tried to slip in. Great I got this (I-pod, or laptop) FREE then I sold it for pure profit and you can TOO!! GO here!!(this is where the link to this idiots website was.). This comment was intended to be with my post of “Can Anyone Find Success On-Line With Limited Or No Funds? ”. I personally took this to be pure SPAM and a marketer looking for free advertising and this is not where they will find it. There are many free advertising methods on the internet, so stop being so LAZY, and learn how to write good traffic drawing ads and go out and place them in the proper places and then maybe, just maybe Internet Marketers will not all be looked at as scam artists out to rip people off. Your form of business operation is why you are in the 95% of marketers that never make any money on-line and you place all the blame on scams, when that is just how you are trying to make it.

For all my readers, with or without an on-line business that would like to make comments that have some merit value that contributes to the subject matter I would be more than happy to post them, whether you agree or disagree with my comments as long as you adhere to the rules. If all you want to do is post an ad well then you will be sent packing, sorry. Use the methods that I have given you to advertise elsewhere or find your own methods that do not include SPAM.

THE NUMBERS GAME : TRAFFIC VS. SALES !!

With any on-line money making venture it all comes down to the numbers game. It really does not matter whether you sell from a sales page or an actual website you will only sell to a very small number of visitors, (traffic). If a one percent conversion rate is considered to be the normal conversion rate then you can count on one sale for every 100 visitors to your website or sales page. Let’s say that you promote products through an affiliate program and your commission for each sale is $20 and you need to earn $100 per day to meet your financial needs, that would mean that you will need to generate at least 500 visitors per day to your sales page, (500 x 1%= 5 sales at $20 each for $100 total). If your conversion rate is much lower then you will need a higher rate of traffic or promote more than one program at the same time, and pull as much traffic on each promotion. With affiliate products the commission rate will also be different from product to product and company to company. I personally promote products that pay me from $5 up to $98.50 and occasionally I will run ads for affiliate items that could potentially pay over $100 per sale. I try to stay mainly with the lower commission items since the higher commission items also have a much higher retail which will also lower your conversion rates.

To generate traffic I find that TrafficSwarm works very well for me and I have used them very heavy for multiple sites and sales pages. I have found that it does work better for informational products and getting people to join affiliate programs under me. For my on-line gift shop I find that pay per click advertising works much better than a traffic exchange or purchasing pop under ads. TrafficSwarm has also given me moderate success with my SFI products by having those ads run on the start pages that I feel house wives view more than men. With TrafficSwarm you can join as a free member or as a paid member. Basically how this works is that you surf ads for credits or you buy credits. You need the credits to run your ads on other peoples start pages, you will never see your own ad on your start page. You can load your start page thirty times for one credit each per day and as a free member you can surf up to 250 ads per day for credits. The more credits that you have the more your ad gets displayed, and each time that your ad is displayed on a start page you are charged one credit. I personally load my start page thirty times per day and surf the 250 ads per day to maintain a high level of credits so I can run multiple ads every day.

I also have found this “FREE ADVERTISING BLOG” to bring me sales and I am only a free member, which permits me to run text ads only. When I first joined as a free member I could only place one ad per week. Now after just about one month of membership I have referred enough people that I have moved up to Silver status which means now I can place my text ads once every four days. So if you are just starting out in Internet Marketing this could be a free advertising method that could produce some results and as you refer people you will gain more free advertising. If you have been working on-line for a while now and you have had enough success that you have an advertising budget and can afford to pay for advertising then this can benefit you even more. As a paid member of the “FREE ADVERTISING BLOG” you can place your ad twice daily and you can use graphics, (pictures, banners, graphs etc.), and you also have more ad space to use. Either way, whether you would be signing up as a free member or a paid member as an on-line marketer you owe it to yourself to check out both of these programs and read all the details at each site to see if either one has a place in your on-line business.
Remember, every on-line business needs traffic to survive just like any off-line store needs people to come through the front door or they sell nothing. Therefore when ever you come across a way of generating traffic to your sales page it is always worth a look.

Can Anyone Find Success On-Line With Limited Or No Funds??

This is a question that I have challenged myself to answer. Now many people on-line try to sell you their method to success on-line by stating that you need not have money, a product, a website, nor do you need to put any work into it. While others will try to sell you on the idea that without a finely tuned and optimized website and great products, ( whether your own or affiliate type), you will “never” find success on-line.

Well I have always been taught that you get back what you put in. Therefore if you put nothing in, you will get nothing out. I have found many affiliate programs that you can join for free and you do not need your own product, and you do not need your own website, so that is three out of four. I, therefore believe that you can earn money on-line without an investment, a product, or a website, however as in anything in life I also believe that you will need to put a certain level of time and effort into it. I have found many “free” means of advertising on-line, therefore if you promote the products of these affiliate programs this way you can earn a commission check, without spending your own money, you just write the ads and locate the free space to place the ad.

Let’s take a look at how most of these programs work. First, when you join you are assigned an affiliate number or code, which is attached to the URL of each company that you join. Now you go out and run free ads which contain either the html of your affiliate link or the out and out URL with your affiliate code in it. When anyone clicks onto the ad that you have placed they go directly to that particular company and if they make a purchase from that company your affiliate ID comes up and you get a commission check. Most of the affiliate programs pay you once or twice monthly, usually in the middle of the month for the month prior. Now I have not found a way to get rich by this method but you can generate an income.

I also have found that you will get a certain amount of click through to your affiliate programs by placing links on your blog. I guess that one could consider a blog to be a website but you can get these for free and free hosting as well. Like this one that I have here on blogspot.com. I have not had this blog for very long so the income has not been high enough for me to even talk about, however the links on the left side of this page are mostly my affiliate programs and as with any on-line marketer I do look for any sales that they may generate. After all that is why on-line marketers do what they do, is it not? Everything that an on-line marketer does while on-line is geared to generate an income. Especially for some one like myself, my on-line efforts are my only source of income. I work on-line seven days a week for six to ten hours each day, doing what I can to get that elusive paycheck. I find that I really have grown to enjoy writing the things that I post here and I did write one business article that I submitted to other blogs and e-zines. Once that I do find a higher level of success through these free means I do intend to share those methods in more detail with my readers here.

Not to long ago I had received an e-mail from a very successful on-line marketer that was offering his “free” help through his new free training program, which is by invitation only by joining certain programs under him. Now as any on-line marketer knows the bigger your down-line the more you make. Briefly his sales pitch was, you join these programs and I will promise you that I will not try to sell you anything and I will give you my help for free so as you will find success. The only money that I will earn from you will be a very small residual second tier commission, not those huge commissions that other successful people would make by constantly selling you their products or products of their friends. This in itself is indeed a very true and honest statement. However if you take the time to look at the level of success that this gentleman has attained and how well known he is because of it, then you must also know that he is signing up thousands to his program. That’s right, you heard me correctly, thousands of sign-ups. So now that very small monthly residual income has become thousands of dollars worth of income each and every month. How? Well think of it this way, on the second tier he may get any where from $1.00 to $5.00 per person, or even more, so if he signs up 5000 people just do the math and you can see how he has generated $5000 to $25000 per month on just this one new program he has started, to compliment all that he does on-line.

When I told him that I would work endless hours doing what ever I needed to do to make money on-line but I could not spend any more money on new programs his response was; “The last thing that you want to do is to try and make this work for you. Please contact me after you get a primary job and have some stability in your life and then we will be in a much better position to work together.” Why, so I could give you the new money that I have earned? I have read some interviews that had been done with him and he answers the question, “How do you want to be remembered as a result of your business efforts?”, with, “I would just like to be known as a successful businessman that was willing to help “anyone” that needed it and be thought of as a good Christian.” Huumm!! Does his response to me reflect a helpful, good, Christian, after he found out that I would not spend any money on his program? I would think not. How about you? What my goal here is, is to find as many “free” avenues to generate income as possible in order to fund those methods that do cost money, as well as effort, in order to make much higher levels of income. Once I find these methods, unlike the already successful marketer above, I plan to share those with you. Let me tell you why. As you would have probably already gathered even when I had the extra money I would not join his program, even though I am very sure that I could learn a tremendous amount from him and shorten my climb to success. However, in my eyes he has damaged his credibility. Just think how loyal and willing I would have been to follow his every word had he said; “RJ let me teach you all the possible “free” ways that I know of to generate an income of say about $400.00 or $500.00 per week and then after you have enough to fund your way into the affiliate programs that I have asked you to join for my free training get back in touch with me and together we will make your income explode.” You know he knows the ways but he is obviously afraid if he teaches some one those then they will not join the programs that pay him thousands of dollars per month. My feelings are just the opposite, I feel if I can help some one earn 4 or 5 hundred per week they will come back and practically beg me to teach them how they can make 5 or 10 thousand per week. What do you think?

How To Manage Your Home Based Business

Today I would like to share with you a quick study of some of the management techniques that I was taught during my thirty-three plus years in the retail field, with just over twenty-eight of those years in a management position. My employers over the years provided me with home study classes, on the job training, and even a night class that was taught by a professor from Ohio State University. I feel even though these techniques were taught as a means of running a brick and mortar store they can also be applied to any Internet Marketing program that you may be running from your home.

For the purpose of keeping this article from becoming a book we will “assume” a few things have already been done and you are ready to begin your business. These of course would be that you have taken the time to research your chosen business, the business excites you, you have written your business plan, written your expense budget, secured enough funding to get you up and running, set a side a place in your home just for your business,(so as not to become distracted), and set a schedule of time for operation.

So with that all in mind let’s look at what’s left for your actual work day. Let’s list some things first then we can break them down individually. 1) Schedule, 2) Time management 3) To Do List, 4) Discipline 5) Breaks and finally 6) Your Attitude.

1) Schedule, I know this is your business and you work when you want and don’t work when you do not want too. Until you are making tons of money this theory will become your fastest road to failure. Since Sunday is the first day of the week in most places why not just sit down and make out your work schedule for the whole week and post it near your desk. Remember whether this is a part time business for you or full time you “MUST” work it as if you had a boss or you will fail. Now that you are the boss make a schedule that you can meet and do comfortably and reach the goals that you have written down for yourself.

2) Time Management, this was always one of the most stressed aspects of management that I was taught and that I taught to any of my manager trainees. If you have no idea how long a given task will take you then you will never complete your “To Do List” on any given day. So while you are learning everyday about the workings of your new business be sure to write everything down in order to learn how long each phase of your operation takes you to complete. After you have done every task within your chosen Internet business it will not be long before you have a list of times for each task.

3) To Do List, I know you are the “BOSS” and you really do not need a list, you know what to do. “MAKE THE LIST”, just do it trust me the more organized you become the more disciplined you will become and the faster you will get things done and the easier your new business will become. Take the times that you have recorded for each task and write them next to each task on your list. You will be amazed at how soon you will be changing those times, simply because your pride will keep pushing you to improve, but only if you “write “ them down and have them in front of you as a constant reminder how long each task takes you. It’s human nature to want to improve, we just need the incentive to do it, henceforth the LIST.

4) Discipline, this one should be rather easy for all to grasp, without it all the other techniques that you learn, you might just as well forget about and prepare to fail. Or find a better paying job. JOB, we all know this stands for just above broke. Yes, you are the BOSS, but if you plan for this home based business to some day set you free from working to make others rich then you better be more disciplined at home than you are at your day job.

5) Breaks, yes you must schedule yourself some break time just as in your day job or you will soon become over worked, under paid, and hate this “JOB” as much as your day job.

6) Attitude, this was always a really big one in all the training that I ran over the years of my retail career. You must feel passionate about what you are doing, and it must excite you or you will always struggle to succeed. Whether you are trying to sign up a prospect as an affiliate, sell a product or service, or most importantly yourself, you will fail to convince your prospect if you are not convinced yourself. Knowledge is power, so if you are going to run a business gain all the knowledge that you can of that business and continue to learn as it grows and changes. Yes there are people out there that are very good at con-jobs when they really hate what they are doing but they succeed for the money, however it’s your reputation at stake and if you are in this for the long run why not LOVE what you do. The stress level will be much lower, and you will be much happier and proud. These things to me are just as important in defining success as the amount of money that you make.

In closing I would just like to say stay well organized, schedule your time, be flexible, yet disciplined and be “PASSIONATE” about what you are doing. By being passionate about your business you will find it much easier to sell yourself and your business to others and success will come to you.

Finding Peace In Recovery!!!

Finding peace in recovery is not always easy. That seems like a statement of discouragement instead of encouragement. However no matter how one has chosen to live ones life there are always ups and downs, the road is never smooth all the time. It’s my opinion that in order to find peace in ones life in recovery or in a “normal” way of life one must walk that journey with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Now if you are of another religious upbringing then you have your own Higher Power to follow and walk through life with. Which ever the case may be we as humans are never in total control of our lives and certain parts of our being must be put in Gods hands so as to follow the proper path and stay true to His Grace.

On January 20, 1989 I had finally reached my bottom and felt the need to turn my life over to God for I was not in control at all and I seen death as the most likely end to the path that I was on. When I first joined A.A.(Alcoholics Anonymous) and N.A.(Narcotics Anonymous) I naturally learned the Serenity Prayer and the Twelve Steps of my new life. However, more importantly I had learned that I must “Give It Away” in order to keep it. For those of you not in recovery or not familiar with the practices of A.A. or N.A. to “Give It Away” means to share your story with other members in order to keep it fresh in everyone’s mind and spirit just why we are there for each other. For us to continue to live a life free of addiction we must always remember to share our story to keep fresh the destruction that our addictions can and will bring to our lives if we fall from our sobriety and give into our addictions again. If you feel that you are fighting an addiction then I urge you to find a meeting near you and seek the help there. Many people think that they can tell some one that they are living an addictive life but in reality only the addicted person themselves can say that and they will never admit it until they hit their bottom even if you think they already past their bottom.

For me to find peace in recovery I have lived the past seventeen years of my life by the following twelve steps and this simple little prayer. 1) I admitted that I was powerless over all drugs and alcohol, that my life had become unmanageable. 2) Came to believe that a Power greater than myself could restore me to sanity. 3) Made a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God as I understood Him. 4) Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of myself. 5) Admitted to God, myself, and another human being the exact nature of my wrongs. 6) I was entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of my character. 7) Humbly asked Him to remove my shortcomings. 8) Made a list of all persons that I had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. 9) Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. 10) Continue to take personal inventory and when I am wrong promptly admit it. 11) Sought through prayer and meditation to improve my conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for me and the power to carry that out. 12) Having had this Spiritual Awakening as a result of these steps, I tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and drug addicts, and to practice these principles in all my affairs. So I pray unto Him; God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference. Amen.

Once again I say these are the things that have helped me to find peace in my recovery even during those times that the road that I now follow on my journey of life may not be smooth. If you are troubled by addictions then I hope and pray for you that you too will find the peace of recovery and if you are in recovery already remember to “Give It Away To Keep It” and share the joy of your new life with a more troubled soul looking for answers. Do it today, I plead with you to do it today, help all our brothers and sisters that suffer. Help them to find the peace and joy of recovery.

WHY YOU SHOULD USE YOUR PROFILE!!

I just wanted to take a few moments to speak my mind about user Profiles. I visit several forums everyday and several blogs. I find that most people do not take the time to fill in their user Profiles.

I personally feel that it is the user Profile that will establish a air of honesty and trust among the members of a forum or blog. With so many not taking the time to fill them out it makes me feel as though those users do not want you to know anything about them but they think that you should listen to what they have to say about a topic that you are reading and may reply to or maybe you are the one that started the topic. I for one always check the profile so as to feel more comfortable accepting what that person has to say. I do realize that you really do not know them and more than likely you never will meet them or get to know them, however if you can get a little information about them from their profile you can feel a little better about accepting what they have to say.

I do not want to give the names of the forums but lets talk a little about why I feel this way. First if I am looking for advice or comments on what I feel is an adult subject matter how can I take the comments of a thirteen year old serious? I mean really if I want to know how readers feel about a problem in the work place, or with a relationship, or even about an aging problem what does a teenager know about any of these things? They have not lived life long enough to make an intelligent comment. Most forums that allow teens to be members have sections that only teens can enter and I think that is fantastic, what with all the predators on the net. However these same forums do not restrict the teens from going into topics that should exclude them. This is why I use the profiles on a regular basis and I do not respond to teens nor do I consider their input on topics that I feel they have no place submitting any input.

So I for one would like to see more people using the profile section that is provided for the members . I think this may in fact create a friendlier atmosphere as well as helping all the members feel closer to one another therefore inspiring them to open up more to each other. DIVERTING THE PAIN OF BEING TATTOOED!!!

As I had promised a few days ago I am now ready to post this article on how I divert the pain of being tattooed. I should start by giving you a little history about my collection and how it got started. I first became interested in the fine art of tattooing when I was a young boy and I seen all the art that my dad had on his arms, chest and stomach. By the time I was a senior in high school I felt I was ready for my first "mark". So one weekend my dad took me and a few of my friends to a nearby town in upstate New York that had a tattoo artist. I was the only minor amongst the group so my dad had to sign for me. I got that mark on my forearm and at that time I thought it was very painful but I could not let my dad know this for he would have told the artist to stop and I could return when I became a man to have it finished so I just looked away and let it happen. After that first experience I had done a lot of reading about the art of tattooing and made up my mind that some day I would have a full body suit with my personal exceptions, ie, no ink on the neck, head, hands, feet, or those personal and private areas of my body. Over the next couple of years I had gotten six more on my arms and then for no apparent reason I had a dry spell of about ten years. Then one day I seen a show on TV about the history of tattooing and I thought what ever happen to my dream of covering the biggest part of my whole body. So I set out to find just the right designs to do just that. And quite by accident I came upon a method to divert the pain and I was anxiously wanting to try it out. So I traveled to the city and found a shop that I had seen in tattoo magazines and I picked a piece of flash and I had the artist place it on the inside of my right forearm and the method work like a gem.

Now for the method and how I happen upon it. I had recently remarried and after awhile my new wife asked if I would like to share a child with her and of course I said yes. However I did have one condition to having a child, and that would be only if she would agree to natural childbirth so that I could be in the delivery room and take part in the entire birth. Since my first wife had refused and I had to spend my time sitting in the fathers room until the nurse brought my son to me. She said she would have it no other way. So when she became pregnant our family doctor set us up with Lamaze Childbirth classes and my method had come to light. I figured if the techniques that we had learned could help her give birth through all that pain then surely it could help me get through a tattoo. Believe me when I say that she and that baby both went through a tremendous amount of trauma and pain they did since our son was born breech. The techniques of slow relaxing breathing, focusing on one thing other than the birth and pain, and in general putting yourself in a happy place as they called it really was amazing at diverting pain. Once I began to practice it I found myself able to find a metaphoric meditation state of sorts. You know like I was somewhere else rather than where I really was. As fate may have it's way in ones life from time to time my wife and I parted ways and my art work was once again put on the back burner. I did get a couple small arm pieces over the next few years just to feed the addiction of needing to be inked.

Thirteen years passed and I found myself getting married to the worlds greatest wife and tattoo lover that I am still married to today. During that thirteen years I had found just the perfect piece to create my full back piece, now I just needed to find the right artist to do the job. We met and became friends with a world renowned artist, Debbie Lenz, and she has now become the artist we use exclusively, by appointment only and pay by the hour. She gets $125.00 per hour and up, depending on the amount of fine detail in the art work. She completed my full back piece in just over 22 hours over six sittings and my full front panel,(chest,sternum,and stomach), in just over 26 hours over six sittings. The back was the easiest for me since I have a bad back and I was able to slow my breathing very low and closed my eyes to make my focal point the humming of the needles and the vibrations I felt in the back muscles as opposed to the pricking of the needles and I actually went to sleep from what I felt to be therapeutic massage instead of pain. The first session that I feel asleep during Deb actually woke me up to be sure that I was alright. I told her that I was fine but now she would need to just sit quietly and speak softly to my wife while I got back to my happy place, she laughed and in a few moments we were going at again and I fell back to sleep. Now when I was having my front panel done well that was another story, no sleeping here. We sectioned off the chest piece so that it would look fine by itself so that I could get it finished and healed to compete in an upcoming expo. To finish on time we needed to do one ten hour session, which left me with the worlds worse headache that only sleep would cure. Turned out that the judges were smarter than I had planned since they could tell that it was not at least six months healed which is the rule of competition. That was the next to last competition I have ever entered since I really hate shaving off all my body hair so the judges can get a better look. My full back piece has placed second and third in different shows but I only entered my front panel once after that first time and I have not even gone to an expo in years. At an expo in Pittsburgh my full back piece did not win but it did make it into Tattoo Magazine in the April 2001 edition on page 37, the page number is in the palm of my hand and it is the picture in the lower right hand corner of the page. Not going to any shows really is not fair to my wife since she has a very beautiful custom design half sleeve which she has never entered in a show. When she gets tattooed I play the part of Lamaze coach and help keep her focused to divert her pain. These simple techniques of relaxation and focusing on one subject other than the pain do require practice and concentration but they work fantastically for the both of us. I feel that anyone that can master these techniques will no doubt divert a lot of their pain and or totally eliminate it.

In closing I hope that these techniques will help anyone seeking their first tattoo or even some one that has many. Just practice the techniques and give it a try what do you have to loose if you plan to get inked anyway. I know that once I have the funds to connect the works on my arms to make full sleeves and have Deb do my legs I for one will be using them once again.
